Passina, along with its 100% subsidiary Tropifutas, has been acknowledged for its contribution to the development of agricultural business in Ecuador.

The Latin America trade award is an initiative of the Netherlands-Latin America Business Council (NLABC), ABN AMRO, KPMG and the Dutch Ministry of Economical Affairs.

Passina has been active in helping farmers grow passion fruit over the past 15 years and has invested in two factories that comply with HACCP and Food Safety standards in Ecuador. Passina has employed over 300 people in a socially responsible way that even then complied with today´s applicable standards for International Labour (ILO standards).

"We are proud to have been able to contribute to the growth of passion fruit plantations. There are now around 22.000 hectares owned by 6.000 farmers and today, Ecuador is the world´s largest exporter of passion fruit juice and concentrate. It is certainly an honour to have been nominated for this award and we are delighted to be in the top five from a shortlist of a dozen companies," said Aart Houweling, CEO of Passina.
